Founded in 1944, the local New Paris Boy Scout Troop continues to meet at the Scout Cabin just west of the town off of County Road 46. Meetings are held on Thursdays, with a flag ceremony starting each meeting at 6:30 PM. A weekly meeting may include canoing down Turkey Creek, planning campouts, working on rank advancement, or honing scout skills.

Records indicate that the first Scoutmaster was Mr. E.M. Todd with Howard Fox serving as the first Scoutmaster under New Paris Chamber chartering. Troop 12 is one of the longest continuously chartered troops in the state of Indiana and is part of the Pioneer Trails District under the LaSalle Council.

Meet The Scoutmaster

Scoutmaster Benjamin Rogers has been involved in scouting for over fifteen years, all of which has been spent with Troop 12 in New Paris. During his time as a scout, he served in multiple leadership roles, including multiple terms as a Senior Patrol Leader. After aging out, he continued with the troop as an Assistant Scoutmaster. During this time he led the creation of the Troop 12 Honor Guard which participates in multiple ceremonial events across Elkhart County each year ranging from parades to funeral honors. He has been recognized multiple times as an Eagle Scout Mentor. He was selected as Scoutmaster by the troop committee in 2024, starting this role in January of 2025.
